Dinan - A living history

Do you want to go back in time and see the medieval France with your eyes? If yes, then you need put Dinan on your wishing list.

Dinan is without doubt one of the most attractive and best preserved small towns in Brittany. With its 1.8 mile (3km)-long ramparts, half-timbered houses, attractive port and cobbled streets filled with art galleries and craft shops, it’s worth a day of anyone’s time.

 

Monts d'Arrée - Gate of hell or heaven?

According local tales, the gate of hell is hidden somewhere at Monts d’Arrée.

With the sunrise, Ankou (Breton ‘grim reaper’) must leave his look-out post on Tuchenn Gador, from where this black-garbed death-worker keeps a 360° watch over the dead souls of Brittany.

But don’t worry, the fact is that more cheerful beings like to come here too! The way along the mountain ridge, you definitely can see some creatures that been knew to be korrigans (a kind of Breton leprechaun) because of their disheveled hair and beards. The more rationally-minded might say it was just moor grass and lichen, or Old Man’s Beard.

This remarkable site is steeped in myth and legend; peat and rock whisper their fantastic stories to the wind.

Glenan archipelago - The Breton Tahiti

The Îles de Glénan are an archipelago of islands about 10 miles (16km) off the south coast of Finistère. Only accessible in summer, they are best known for their sailing and diving schools and for having a unique indigenous flower.

The archipelago is made up of nine main islands and many islets, in the middle of which is a lagoon renowned for the clarity of its water and the whiteness of its sands; in fact, the area has been described as ‘the Breton Tahiti’.

Canals of Brittany - In the heart of Brittany
