The French Golf Open is the oldest and one of the most important national open in Continental Europe. Each year, people gather at Le Golf National to see their favorite golfer playing this famous European Tour golf tournament.

Inaugurated in 1906, the Open de France was first called the “Great Omnium Championship” and took place the first time in La Boulie, a golf club in Versailles. It was created by the directors of the Golf de Paris in order to launch an international tournament with the aim of developing golf practice in France. The French Golf Open, inspired by the British one created in 1860,  was a real success especially as it was won by the French player Arnaud Massy.   The Open de France has been relocated many times since 1912 until it finally settled in 1991 in Le Golf National, next to Paris. In 1906, Arnaud Massy inaugurates the prize list of the event. At that time, he was one of the most popular golf player, as he also won the British Open in 1907. Then, in the 1910s and 1920s, British players dominate the championship. Aubrey Boomer won 5 times in 10 editions between 1921 and 1931, and remains today the victory record. Besides, the Englishman Cyril Tolley who won in 1924 and 1928 remains the only amateur to have won the French Open.   Then came the era of globalization of the Open de France with winners from all over the world, such as the South African Si Brew, the Argentinian…
